I especially enjoyed Star Born by *ArchArad. As our suggester also noted, 'this story is filled with color and wonder. The author pays homage to the creation myths told around campfires for millennia with elegant, simple descriptions and symbolic characters that hide deeper meaning beneath the story's surface.'

On the day when the Great Mother had set the last petal on the very last flower and taught the final bird to sing she sent for Chameleon. Chameleon walked with great care along a branch of the Great Mother’s throne-tree and waited. She turned to Chameleon and fixed him with eyes that contained the beginning and the end in their liquid depths. “Thank you for coming, my friend. I have a favour to ask of you.” Chameleon blushed with all the shades of a summer sunset and bowed down before her. The Great Mother reached into the folds of her robe and pulled out a beautiful glittering star. “This star contains the seeds of my most precious creation. I would like you to care for it until I need it.” Again Chameleon bowed and very carefully took up the star in his curled tail. Its brightness touched his scales and lit them in all the colours of the universe. “Thank you good friend Chameleon.” The Great Mother smiled once more and closed her eyes to rest.
Chameleon set out with his precious cargo to keep it safe in his leafy home. But as he walked in his slow and creaking way, he happened to pass Monkey. Monkey saw the glittering star and wanted it for himself. He leapt swiftly from branch to branch and settled himself to wait for Chameleon to pass by. Eventually Chameleon was directly below him and he reached out with nimble fingers and snatched away Chameleon’s treasure. But the star blazed in his hands and the heat from it singed his fur. Frightened, he threw it to the earth below them.
As it landed the star burst, sending a cascade of twinkling sparks into the air. Wherever they landed the sands shifted and boiled and figures began to emerge from the Earth’s womb. They stood on two legs and their fur and skin were in all of the tones and shades of the earth from which they had been born. As they lifted their eyes to the sky Monkey and Chameleon could see the sparks of the Great Mother’s star burning brightly within them.
Far away the Great Mother opened her eyes and smiled.

My First and Last War Poem
When he came back from the war,
all he saw was shrapnel.
Not like the sort on the battlefield,
at home there were no bodies,
there was no thick sticky blood on his hand,
She stood at the beach,
brushed back a strand of hair
a jellyfish washed onto shore.
She knew only the dead were that clear
and it reminded her of the poisonings:
dead cats and dogs curled in balls along the sidewalk
after some jerk littered the doorsteps
steaks marinated in cyanide.
instead, he watched his family,
watched himself at the dinner
table as if he weren't even eating
swallowed the potatoes and wondered
"where is the metallic flavor;"
"where is th

My Muse Went On Vacation
My muse went on vacation
and took all my best thoughts
and all my favorite phrases,
and the bunnies with their plots,
she ran off with all the fluff stuff,
she ran off with the hero's sword--
she left me sitting here alone,
bemused and rather bored.
My muse went on vacation
To a sunny foreign clime,
and left me sitting here alone
without a word to rhyme,
She's laying on a beach somewhere
without a hint of snow,
and leaving me with winter's chill
and no place left to go.
My muse went on vacation -
I hope she's coming back
With a healthy tan, a rosy glow
and some fresh stuff to attack--
I miss her interaction,
how she drov

Vadha
I have seen two blossomings of the Kurinci flower and twenty-four black monsoons since Kalinga Magha first landed on the shore of our island Kingdom. He arrived as the rainy season ended greenery erupting from every hollow, pepper vines snaking up every tree. Cranes and peacocks drank from the bowls of mangrove roots, elephants rolled and snorted in watering holes, and the mists were slinking back to stalk the lush valleys of the Hill Country.
The thousands of soldiers Magha brought with him trudged for days through our country's red mud, sinking in potholes and cursing their gods in all the languages of the mainland. Farmers knee-dee

A wonderful creation myth, short and simple, full of that special whimsy that makes such stories fun. Congrats on the DD.
